Dear Parents:

                I am so happy I have your child in my class this year! I want to give you a little information on how our classroom works daily and how tests are given.

Classwork:   The students will have various forms of classwork. Most of this classwork is turned in for a grade.

Tests:   Formal assessments will be given for spelling/dictation, reading, language, vocabulary, math, and science. Informal assessments will be given for history. This may include worksheets, classwork, projects, etc… Every Thursday your child will have a practice spelling test and math test. Every Friday your child will have a spelling/dictation test, reading test, language test, and vocabulary tests. As of now, science tests will be given when we finish a chapter. We will have at least one day to review before the test. I will let you know if anything changes.

How will you know what is on tests/ what their homework is?   I send home a weekly “homework chart”. Students copy their homework at the end of the day on this chart. The back of the chart will have a list of what we are covering or testing on that week. I also post this on the Blog. The homework sheet must be signed and returned every day.

This week will be run a little differently than most.   We WILL test on Spelling/Dictation, Reading, Language, and Vocabulary this week. We will NOT test on math or science. Also, the first chapter in math is pretty lengthy. It will take us several weeks before we are ready for assessment. Most things will be a little crazy this week. I am getting used to them, and they are getting used to me. Do not worry. =)

Folders:   Classwork folder- stays at school. Anything we are working on in class stays in there. Do not take home.   Homework folder- there will be 2 pockets: keep at home & right back. Their homework sheet will also be in the folder on the “right back” side.   Signed Tests folder- this folder will go home each Friday. Inside will be the tests they completed from the previous week. Please sign the top test in the stack and PUT BACK IN their folder. Return the folder on Monday.   AR Folder- This will be a folder with a chart that lists the names of the books your students reads.                        Please sign this when your child is ready to take a test on the book. We usually phase                        the parent signature part out later, but I can keep it per request.
